Margaret E. Sellick...
Margaret “Peg” Sellick was born and lived in New York until the age of 40 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She moved to California after her first surgery as a work transfer with IBM.
She raised her two children Tracey and Tom on her own while working her way
up the corporate ladder. Seven years later, she experienced a metastasis of her cancer to her lungs. She fought another tough battle and managed to survive after successful chemotherapy treatment.
Three years later, at age 50, she retired from IBM after having a rewarding 30 year career. She spent the next seven years traveling and doing consulting work when needed. At age 57, the cancer metastasized again, this time to her brain. She then had brain surgery to remove the tumor. We will never forget her raising her arms in triumph and yelling “I’m alive!” as they wheeled her from surgery to recovery.
She spent the next three years enjoying her life and continuing to travel to Europe and all of the places she loved. In 2000, the cancer returned again, this time to her spinal cord. As usual, she was determined to beat this disease at any personnel cost as she had three times before.
In April of 2001 the disease finally got the best of her and she passed away. The last thing she said to her son Tom was that she had lived a great life and was ready to go. She had lived her life more in the twenty years she survived with Breast Cancer than most people live in a lifetime.
She will be missed as will millions of others who have succumb to this horrible disease.
